Scattered Times

It's been a relatively strange few weeks in the land of the boppers. My head feels like it might explode with everything I've had to do and try to fit in training too. Well, maybe the training didn't fit in that perfectly. It got scattered between travelling and generally I'm starting to feel a little like my car has become my home. I did manage to spend 2 weeks at home, but at this point it feels like a distant memory that will in due time become faded.

With all that in mind, I don't expect Outlaw to be the high point in my year, but we'll see how it goes. 3 months of unstructured training cannot be good in any way shape or form. I'm already looking past the day – towards something else to do once 08/08 has come and gone. I'm stuck with two choices: Nottingham Triathlon and Hever Castle Triathlon. One of them is local, one of them very much a race that will require travel. One of them is flat as can be, the other one including (from what I hear) some nasty hills.

Then there's the time to prepare. Nottingham is less than a month away and there's a good 2 months between now and the Hever Castle Triathlon.

The option to do both is still there, but we'll have to see.

For now, I'm in Wales, enjoying the quiet and at the same time, working nice and hard.

If….

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!

1. Absolute Swimming

This morning I had to meet someone at the Absolute Tri Club swim session to exchange a few previously borrowed goods. I figured that it was as good an excuse as I needed to join in the swimming. Swimming with the club is always quite a bit of fun - you get the social aspect of training as well as a good amount of structure exercise.

The workout was a good one, despite me drinking half the pool. Afterwards I had to rush a little to get to work, but all-in-all, I'm going to say that I enjoyed this one.

Summary training since 13/07/2010:

  • Swim sessions : 1
  • Swim distance : 2000 meters
  • Swim time : 01:00:00

Back from North Wales

Its been a very busy few weeks.  Not that I've been in China, but North Wales are starting to feel a bit like that to me with the amount of time I'm spending there.  You know, very far away from home.  And I spent a LOT of time there in the past 2 months.

Then came last week and I was home for most of the week.  Of course, by the end of my time in Wales I was tired and came down with a tad of flu.

Here's to a little more time at home.

1. Bike 20.88 miles

Today Peg-leg went along with me and we took a nice little ride around the county – him on my road bike, me on my tri-bike.  It has been insanely hot this side of the earth for the past few days and we figured we might as well enjoy the sunshine while we had it.

Of course, things did not go smoothly or as planned – 30 minutes into the ride, peg-leg realised that his water bottle still stood on the kitchen counter.  So, between the two of us, we had exactly 1 X 500ml bottle of water.  This soon disappeared – like I said, it was hot – and the last half an hour home felt a bit on the dry side.

Summary training since 11/07/2010:

  • Bike sessions : 1
  • Bike distance : 20.88 miles

Relax!

I'm not naturally a relaxed person. I'm the person that lies awake at night, wondering about what the following day holds, considering the day that has just passed and tensing up whenever anything of importance approaches. As human bodies do, mine gets a little tired of all this stressing and I end up in bed with a cold, a cough, a headache and feeling generally sick in no time at all.

Work last week was insane. By the end of the week, I was in sick-land.

And now, I just want to get a little better so that I can get going again…

Tired and Cranky

I am tired.  Very very tired.  And who would blame me after I worked between the hours of 1am and 4am this morning?  Of course, I also slept between 1pm and 4pm, but that's beside the point.  I'm still tired and right now I'm sitting in bed, contemplating the meaning of life and at the same time thinking that I should really already be asleep again.

The past 2 weeks I've been away from home for work again - tomorrow I get to go home!!!  Wooo!!!!  And Saturday there is a possibility of me taking part in a triathlon, so who knows, there might be a teensy tiny race report coming up on Monday

Swimming in Coffee

Spilling coffee

It is always a good start to a week when, within the first hour at work, you cover yourself, your keyboard, your mouse, your books, everything else on the desk and maybe even a little on the floor, with a hot, steaming mug of coffee.  It required me to get myself home, take a shower and then fish around for something else to wear to work today as the general feeling was that I couldn't work without clothes on.

Its probably a sign that I should have done more exercise this weekend instead of exercising my right to be lazy.  But then, I had to be lazy, because I had to be near a phone and computer of sorts, in case anyone needed me.  The turbo didn't hold any exciting promises and the treadmill was already giving me a headache when I just THOUGHT about it.

At least this week will get off to a good start as I have swimming tonight and afterwards I can steam and ice myself to death if I need to.

Until then, I have to deal with the smell of coffee for the rest of the day...
